Sunday: Tigers

After we left the farm on Saturday we hit the road and ended up at the Greektown Casino and Hotel in Detroit, MI. The hotel was beautiful and had a great view of downtown Detroit. That night we hit up a local bar for some drinks and then saw The Avett Brothers concert which was soul shakingly good.
In the morning on Sunday we woke up a little tired from the night before, but we managed to get around and check out. Leah suggested something easy for lunch so we stopped at a sushi place on our way to Comerica Park to watch the Tigers game. The sushi was good, the game was good, and we had great seats for both. It was a great ending to an even better weekend.

Saturday: Down on the Farm

This past week I took the weekend off and headed over to Detroit, MI for some fun with Leah. Our first stop was on Friday night when we stayed the night with my grandparents in New Lothrop. In the morning we woke up and went to the biggest Christmas store around, Bronner's. After that we ate lunch at the Junction of Hope in Maple Grove. Then it was back to the farm for a quick look at the garden before we headed out for the tail end of our road trip.
Here are some photos I took while walking around the garden.

Also, check out the Junction of Hope, the only non-profit restaurant in the United States that employs and trains special needs adults.

Tubing

Tubing is, "the leisure activity of riding on water or snow on a large inflated inner tube," and it is awesome!
A week or so ago I received an invitation to do some tubing for the first time. I had been on the back of a speed boat in a tube, but never just floating down a river. Talk about relaxing! The weather wasn't perfect, but the company was and that made all the difference. Of course I couldn't take my camera down the river with me, but on the ride home the clouds parted to let out a little sun and I happened to catch that. It was the perfect ending to a perfect "sick day."

Day 3

When I'm lucky I can con my friends or family into dressing up and doing photo shoots. Recently some friends were in town and it was suggested that we do just that.
Here are some of the photos we took while in downtown Muskegon, MI. There was no theme or aim to the images, just to have a good time and see what happened. I was pretty pleased with the way they turned out, considering it was in the middle of the night and I had conveniently left my off camera flash at home. Thank God for head lights!

Day 2: mmm...CAKE!

Every once and a while I spend the day inside cleaning or lounging around, you know, a real day off. Anyway, one morning I woke up and stumbled into the kitchen to feed myself. To my surprise when I opened the refrigerator door there was the most glorious sight... I ran for my camera. As I snapped away I realized that on this day I would eat a breakfast fit for a queen!

Day 1

After not having Internet for the past couple of days and being on the road lately (taking vacation) I've decided it's time to get back to sharing a little bit of what I've been seeing.

The other night I headed out to watch a friend play some local softball in Grand Haven, MI. The game was great. Just the usual softball stuff, until a storm came in over the lake. The storm amounted to nothing, besides some pretty angry softball players who were forced to leave early due to the lightning, but I got a chance to hit the beach as the sun set and the storm clouds rolled out of the area.

The Fighting Amish

A summer is not complete without attending a slow pitch softball game. My undesirable skills are not needed, but the intense and competitive nature of adults never fails to entertain. Here are a few photos from a Thursday night battle.

Flash Flood

Nestled on Lake Michigan's eastern shoreline, Spring Lake offers some of the most brutal storms in Michigan. A last minute decision to stroll down to a bayou bridge caught us in a wicked thunderstorm. We were ill-prepared, but decided to buckle down and wait it out under the bridge.

Waiting it out lost its fun when a flash fload was brewing on either side of us. Luckily, I brought my camera along and these shots depict some of the storm's various offerings on our walk to shelter.

Shot with natural lighting on a Nikon D70.

Just Starting Out

Thought I'd start out by saying...I miss Marquette.
